A short grumble.
I swear, doctors' offices these days put all incoming phone calls on hold whether they are talking to anyone else or not.

The cynical side of me cannot choose between thinking this to be a power play, where the person forced to wait is put on the defensive in further social interactions, or rather as a mark of simple laziness wherein the receiver chooses to stave off as many calls as possible rather than simply addressing issues as they arise.

Either way, I tire of it.

it's a power thing. "i am more important than you are. my time is more valuable than yours. you must wait until i am ready to deal with you. and don't forget to tug your forelock."

You know, considering it was a business call, I don't think I will be "holding" the next time I call for my job. I think it will be something more like, "Actually, I can't, as this is a business call your office requested. Please have someone call 877-This-Job when you have the time to address the issue."
