Jumping into EVE
Seems that I remember someone I know is a player of EVE Online. I'm giving it a try on the trial basis at the moment and find myself enjoying it. I prefer to play these games with people I know. Anyone out there have room for a Caldari prospector who's just starting out in the Black?
Current Mood: somewhat impressed

We played EVE for a few months but got tired of being ganked and losing millions of ISK worth of ships. Nothing else to do but mine rocks in deep space unless we wanted to turn pirate, which we didn't. We were in an ISS corporation (I've since heard ISS fell apart, which was too bad) so we had a lot of allies. I'd hope with the expansion they put in awhile back there's more to do in game than run from 'rats and shoot rocks... :)

ISS corporation?

So far on day 1, I haven't been to any areas lower than security level 0.7. As I understand it, one of several alternatives to mining involves hunting for and clearing deadspace complexes. I managed to solo one infested by a pirate convoy earlier today, but it was a couple of hours' work and required a bit of playing around until I had the right mixture of firepower and longevity. It was fun to beat the challenge since it required thought, tactics, and patience more than simply raw power and twitch skills.

ISS = Interstellar Starbase Syndicate

Looks like the rumor of their demise was unfounded (although our corp PRAX, The Praxis Initiative, does appear to be defunct). They are a syndicate of several corporations.

The game was fun, don't get me wrong. Running missions is interesting and profitable too. I guess we kinda got pointed down the corporate politics trail by joining a corp in a syndicate and that got old.

I do!

We're a mix of mining and ratting out near the Metropolis border in Minmatar space.

My character is Gilber Laraque, and the corp I'm in is on http://www.hack3rinc.com. We're small, but we're pretty good about helping you get going.

Cool. If I decide to sign up past the trial period, I'll look you all up.

Name's Caltaval Reese, currently working the common ores in Todaki.

Our two offices that I think you can get to easiest (and are in higher-sec), are in Hatakani and Amo.

Hatakani is listed as being in the Caldari Border Zone, so yeah, should be the safest for me to reach. Which station is your office there in?

I can't remember the exact planet, but it's the Hyasoda factory in that system.

i don't know shit about the game, but sheramil spends a lot of time on it.

Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on September 5th, 2007 11:56 am (UTC)
It's essentially a limited space simulator. It doesn't really go into physics as such, leaving control of the ships to the computer almost exclusively aside from plotting courses. Combat is tactical rather than twitch-based. Exploration and economics are the heart of the game, with piracy, manufacturing, and mining all equally valid paths to success.
Ace Lightning: spaceacelightning on September 6th, 2007 06:51 am (UTC)
well, for what it's worth, i've told sheramil (in email) that you've started playing it. i wish i could tell you what he does in the game, but i don't even know enough about it to understand the answer if i asked.

Mostly kinda unrelated, but I was curious where y'all had gone re:WoW. I kept meaning to ask, but kept forgetting. Get boring, again?
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on September 5th, 2007 12:38 pm (UTC)
Yep, bored with it again. Ali hates raiding and hell, let's face it, that's about all there is to do after a certain point. Even if she didn't utterly HATE raiding, there were two other factors: we didn't want to invest the time needed to do anything successfully and our guild wasn't doing much of anything together. No point paying for frustration, you know?
L Alouisadkins on September 5th, 2007 07:53 pm (UTC)
No worries. I know that, at least, right now, we are just kinda there (as a guild.) I'd like to get back into the casual raid type thing and see Kara, but I don't know if it'll happen. I'm glad you decided to not violate rule #1, though. (Play the game to have fun; if it's not fun, anymore, don't play.)
