from an earlier conversation
I've said this before, I'll say it again: stupidity should be painful to the person causing it rather than the person who hears it.

Certain levels of stupidity ought to be lethal.

I don't know. You're currently in no danger.

Did you get my voicemail message from the other night? Keep claiming that the chest cold you were spreading around in January is allergies and I'll take credit for a lingering headache, if nothing else.

Dare I ask? =D

Oh, I think you know.

ideally, stupidity would cause sterility... stupid people shouldn't breed.

i remember a PSA that had a schoolmarm-sounding woman's voice (over appropriate pictures) saying, approximately:
"Stupidity breeds ignorance. Ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds hatred. Hatred breeds racism. Stupid people shouldn't breed!"

That would help, too. Still, if stupidity was instantly painful, it would provide a negative reinforcement stimulus.

now, if stupidity were instantly painful to the genitalia, that would do St. Darwin's work for him quite nicely...

I strongly disagree. Maybe it's because I've had one of those moments where I had to look back at something I've said or done and said... "Geez, that was stoopid!"

Come on... I think we've all had those moments.

Now... if you were to say chronic stupidity should result in instant pain, I wouldn't disagree there.
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 23rd, 2007 02:50 pm (UTC)
Ah, but if you had a sudden pain from being stupid, you'd know at the time you were being stupid, perhaps even in time to alter your course. :)
craigers01 on February 23rd, 2007 03:46 pm (UTC)
True enough. So, how about just a "No" to the sterilization thing?
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 23rd, 2007 03:50 pm (UTC)
(shrug) I still advocate solving the overpopulation, teen pregnancy, and unwanted/abused children problems with one answer: universal implant birth control removed only after receipt of a parenting license. The sciences necessary aren't there yet in terms of reliability, but as soon as they are, implant birth control measures in all citizens starting as early as possible. Remove the implants once a person/couple/household has passed screening for psychological and severe genetic problems, reinserting the implant after the licensees have had a child. No more unwanted children, reduction of birth defects and abuse, teen pregnancy would be a thing of the past, and overpopulation solved.

The government doesn't have the right to implant anything in my body.

And watch this...

Kill everyone. No more unwanted children, elimination of birth defects and abuse, teen pregnancy would be a thing of the past, and overpopulation solved.
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 23rd, 2007 06:45 pm (UTC)
Craig, really. That's such an extreme solution to the problems. I consider my suggestion the compromise position. ;)

As for the government, they can do whatever we let them do. If we don't like what they're doing, we can either elect people who will change the laws we don't like or rise up and overthrow the government directly. Governance rightly derives from the mandate of the people; governance in this country seems to derive from the wallets of the corporations, though.
craigers01 on February 23rd, 2007 09:13 pm (UTC)
I agree. And thus, have no more to say on the subject.
Ace Lightning: on the beachacelightning on February 24th, 2007 06:39 am (UTC)
well, if every time you did or said something stupid, you got an electric shock to the balls, pretty soon you'd learn not to do or say stupid things, wouldn't you?
