(shrug) It's a word. One word.
I'll put it this way.

If you're getting this agitated and rude over what you think is the misuse of a word? Then you've given up all control to a simple label.

Grow up.

Edit: Sadly, this is the usual result when you get a bunch of people together and ask what it means to be a "pagan."

Also happens when you do the same with the word "witch"...

Yep. Same stupid argument, different day.

There, there. Just remember how many words there are out there that folx do that over. I won't say why... ::closing eyes and sighing:: no, the plain fact is that most adults are not grown up. Damn, whose ethical scale was that?
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 6th, 2007 10:10 pm (UTC)
Doing that over the definition of any word is ludicrous.

ya think? ::grin::

and the same thing also happens with the word "Christian"... a term that includes everyone from gentle, loving, almost Zen Buddhist mystical types to Fr3d Ph3lps.

Frankly, anyone who does not get that his or her own definition of things is not the ONLY viable definition, or indeed that some things cannot be defined, can officially blow it out his or her ass.

my brain is wired almost exactly the opposite way; i have a great deal of difficulty grokking how anyone could possibly believe that their definition of a word, or their sexual preference, or their world-view is the only "right" one. it's just so obvious to me, that there are so many different ways that all work, there can't possibly be only one "right" way. but, as i said, my brain is wired funny.

From what I have seen and experienced, more people than not have a problem like this. *sigh*

I know it's true! I saw it on the web!

Heh. That line still makes me laugh.
craigers01 on February 8th, 2007 05:23 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I always get a smile out of it myself, followed quickly by a nostalgic feeling where I miss being in high school.
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 8th, 2007 05:24 pm (UTC)
Now there's one thing I definitely don't miss: high school. I miss some of the people from back then, but certainly not the rest of the experience.
craigers01 on February 8th, 2007 06:03 pm (UTC)
Oh, I miss the experience. Those were such carefree and stressless times for me, compared to my life now anyway. Back then, the only stresses I remember having were tests and whether or not I would get caught skipping school. There were a couple of bad times Karen , but even those were fun in their own way.
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 8th, 2007 06:13 pm (UTC)
You and I had different stressors back then, of course. I didn't stress from tests but from social issues. Excelling in academics and watching the jocks get praised for doing something that is totally secondary to the real reason that there even was a school was maddening. As for romance, all high school meant to me was one string of unrequited crushes and awkward failures in approaching the opposite sex.

If I miss anything from back around then, it's college, not high school. College was like a whole different world for me.

I still have that old notebook that you and I used to pass notes back and forth in Todd's class. Want me to type that up and post it?
Traveler Farlandertwfarlan on February 8th, 2007 09:45 pm (UTC)
(laugh) Please don't. I don't think I want to read it.
