Pope Palpatine Strikes Back... Again
Seems the Dark Lord of the Vatican, Pope Voldemort Palpatine Saruman Torquemada Reichsinger Benedict (there we go), may have gone and offended all of Islam again.

He quoted Emperor Manual II of the Ottoman Empire, who said that one of the evils Muhammad stirred in the creation of Islam was the spread of his faith by the sword. Yeah, because the Church has never done that, Heaven forbid.

Edit 9/15/06 10:49a: Did anyone expect the Vatican to say anything along the lines of, "Of course he intended to show disrespect to Islam,"? Of course the Vatican is going to say he didn't intend any disrespect. Even if he DID intend to show disrespect to Islam and stir up sentiment against them, who is foolish enough to think he'll admit it when asked?

Yay, crusades, horses, swords and shining armor ... party on, excellent!

*blinksrapidly*

I love that whole, "He was merely quoting someone else" angle. As if that just explains everything away.

Actually, I do have an explanation that does explain everything nicely. Here it is:

The Vatican and indeed the entire Roman Catholic Church is an organization devoted to world conquest and supports a view of society that has become obsolete in the face of increased scientific understanding and social progress.

There you go. Everything they do explained away.

Which is one of the main reasons that I've been a Recovering Catholic for the longest time.

Agreed with the "headache from the eye rolling"...

Oy...

Makes me want to take a Tylenol the size of a baseball bat. ... And then use it to club idiots like him. That'd make my headache go away. :)

I'm not sure that it would make my headache go away - but it would make me feel better... *evil grin*

has this dude even read the bible? isn't that required reading for his position?

(all three are accounts of Jesus speaking)

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household." (Matthew 10:34-36 NASB)

"I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled!" ... "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three."... (Luke 12:49,51-53 NASB)

"If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:26 NASB)

I'd say, by those quotes, he's doing Jesus's work just fine. Lady Eris must find this all terribly amusing, seeing how much discord and struggle is sown in the name of unity and peace.

No, by the way, I don't think reading the Bible is really much required for being a Pope. As our dear Catholic friend from the christiansex community mentioned, the Scriptures come in a distant third in importance when compared to Church dogma and traditions.
